Jan 27, 2021·1,595. If a 410 is a must. I would try to get a rifled barrel and shoot sabot rounds. I’m not positive they make one for a 410 I haven’t looked. But most likely they do. I bought one for 12 gauge. And shoot 375 grain Remington Accutip. That might’ve an option for the 410 if you are gonna get one.

The .410 - a diminutive dynamo - by Bruce Moss - SSAA

Savage’s Model 24 combination gun would overcome this and a small, unsuspecting, wallowing pig would be better hit with one of these than the upper .22 barrel, but I’m speculating. While ammunition for the .410 isn’t difficult to procure, don’t expect the variety of shot sizes that were once available.

Is a .410 Shotgun Effective for Deer Hunting? - Texas Gun Talk

Mar 27, 2021·Most of my deer have been with 30 yards, some within 20; I'd guess a 410 slug, at that close of a range, would bring down a whitetail pretty easily. I know of quite a few that have been taken with 22 LR ammo, not by me but by scum sucking poachers, and would think that a 410 slug would be much more effective than a 22 rimfire round.

Jul 03, 2011·The 410 slug and hunting with it is sort of a hobby of mine. I have written quite a number of articles on 410 slugs and testing them and hunting deer with them at the above website. I personally feel the 410 slug is adequate if the hunter can do their part. The hunter must put the effort into finding a setup that shoots accurately.

Jan 24, 2021·1000 foot pounds of energy is sort of the accepted minimum for ethical deer hunting. My memory is that the .410 slug falls off pretty quickly. The manufacturers list it as suitable for coyote hunting. I'll stand by my statement on ethical ranges. A quick check showed the 3" Winchester slug started at only 1066 foot pounds at the muzzle.

Jan 25, 2007·The only deer my father ever took was with a .410 and when I started hunting at 12 years old, I used that same rifle until he felt I was ready to hunt with the Remington 760 30.06 I had inherited from my grandfather... Nov 12, 2012·The large energy difference is because the .410 is only shooting a 1/4 oz slug. You have 437.5 gr per once so the .410 slug only weighs 109.25 gr. Energy is a ratio of weight x velocity. A slower slug (44 Mag, 20 ga. etc,) that is heavier will generate and retain more energy.

Oct 10, 2011·First of all, for a smooth bore gun 325 grains is going to be almost impossible to stabilize out of a smooth bore gun. The heaviest prototype slug I have ever been able to successfully stabilize out of a smooth bore 410 slug gun was about 220 grains weight and that required an impressively long tail assembly and was barely stable in flight.
